Overview

The SLATE System provides a complete set of installation and configuration utilities. However, some developers may want to provide a replacement for the standard installation program that matches the "look and feel" of their application. They may also want to provide simplified installation by eliminating some features or options.

SLATEUTL provides the library and documentation to perform all the necessary installation and configuration functions.

With SLATEUTL you can:

Use your standard screen manager and user interface.

Create a new Printer Database.

Copy Printers from the Distribution Printer Database

to the working Printer Database.

Create new Logical Devices with default data.

Select and delete existing Logical Devices.

Read and Write all Logical Device Data.

Select an installed Printer for a Logical Device.

Support sophisticated Screen Managers that use a

Data Dictionary to access arrays of data records.

Convert between internal codes and formats and display formats.

What is SLATEUTL? SLATE and SLATE with Graphics come with a configuration utility. SLATEUTL is an optional library that provides the functions to develop an alternate configuration utility.

The library allows the configuration utility to have the same functionality as the slate.exe program provided with the SLATE System. It provides functions to create, edit, and display the Logical Device data and to install and expand Printers from the Distribution Printer Database.

Library: SLATEUTL is an independent library that provides over 150 functions to select, create, delete, read, and write data in the Printer Database. SLATEUTL neither requires nor permits linking with the SLATE and SLATEGPH libraries. It provides individual field read and write functions as well as support for sophisticated Data Dictionary based Screen Managers.

Distribution: Your configuration program linked into the SLATEUTL Libraries may distributed without royalties.

Hardware Requirements: An IBM-PC, PC/XT, PC/AT, or compatible computer with at least 128K of available memory and a hard disk drive.

Operation Systems: Microsoft MS-DOS or IBM PC-DOS operating system, version 2.1 or later.

Additional Requirements: The SLATE Universal Printer Driver system is required.
